Zella Mae (Otto) Bittinger, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, MD. Born on May 30, 1919 in New Germany, MD, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Lewis and Margaret (Hansel) Otto. Mrs. Bittinger was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Raymond "Ray" Bittinger; a son, Robert Raymond Bittinger; a daughter, Bonnie Bittinger; a sister, Mary Helen (Otto) Broadwater; and four brothers, Frederick O. Otto, Julius H. Otto, William H. Otto, and Charles C. Otto. Mrs. Bittinger was a member of the Meadow Mt. Mennonite Church for over sixty years, where she was a greeter, chorister, Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, Church secretary, member of the Church Council and the Foods Committee. She volunteered at the Bittinger Fire Hall, Springs Folk Festival, and the Highland Thrift Shop in Grantsville for over twenty-two years, and was superintendent of the house plants at the Garrett County Fair for over fifty years. She was a past member of the New Germany and Meadow Glade Homemakers Clubs. She is survived by one daughter, Helen M. Bittinger of Swanton; three grandsons, Richard R. Bittinger (Sheila), William L. Bittinger (Nichole), and Scott A. Bittinger (Rebecca), all of Oakland; a sister, Margaret Olive (Otto) Riedman of Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Shirley A. (Clary) Bittinger of Mt. Lake Park; eight great grandchildren, Lowell R. Bittinger (Melanie), Kayleigh A. Bittinger, Jenna A. Bittinger, Max R. Bittinger, Bryson L. Bittinger, Meghan P. Bittinger, Nathan S. Bittinger, Avery L. Bittinger; and a great great grandson, Zachary Bittinger. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD on Friday, March 30th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Saturday, March 31st from 10 to 11 AM at the Meadow Mt. Mennonite Church, Swanton, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. Duane E. Frederick officiating. Interment will follow in Garret County Memorial Gardens, Oakland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, Inc., PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550, or to the Meadow Mt. Mennonite Church Building Fund, Swanton, MD.
