Winnifred (Winnie) Delores Gatto, 86 of Eglon, WV (PrestonCounty) died March 2 along with her husband, Ralph Gatto, in a tragic fire at their home.

She was born in Benbush, WV. (Tucker County) April 8, 1927 a daughter of the late L. Talmage and Cecelia Olive (Miller) White. She married Ralph Antonia Gatto on September 13, 1983 in First Presbyterian Church, Winchester, VA.

She is survived by one daughter, Delores Jeanne (Helmick) DeGrave (Dale) of Kearneysville, WV, two sons Gary Helmick (Debbie) of Riverview, Florida and Glenn Helmick (Bonnie) of Gobles, Michigan; .ten grandchildren - Tom, Nicole, Dan, Lisa, Breanne, Samantha, Lindsey, Kristen, Danielle, and Gabriel; and five great grandchildren - Rachel, Kyle, Elizabeth, Emily and Eva.

She will be missed deeply by her family and her many friends in the community.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald White of Rocky Mt., NC, and one sister, Enid (White) Maniscarco of Kenosha, WI.

Mrs. Gatto attended schools in Davis and Thomas, WV., graduating from Thomas High School.  She worked at Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown, MD, and Giant Food Stores, and the Fairfax County School Board in Fairfax, VA., before she returned to Tucker and Preston Counties. Her family remembers and will miss hearing one of her favorite sayings: "I love you very much (hesitation) more than you will ever know".

She was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Eglon, WV. Friends will be received at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, on April 5, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the funeral hour,  Pastor Gary Meeks will be officiating.

Following the service interment will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, 3075 Maple Spring Hwy, Eglon, WV, 26716 or Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, 25781 George Washington Hwy, Aurora, WV, 26705 in memory of Mrs. Winnifred (Winnie) Gatto.
