Wilma Sharps

Wilma Crosby Sharps, 94, of Easton, MD and formerly a longtime resident of Oakland, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, after a prolonged illness. Born on February 7, 1923, in Brooks County, GA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Alma (Liles) Crosby. Wilma met her husband, John, who was serving at nearby Spence Air Field Air Force base in Moultrie, GA. At the end of WWII, John and Wilma moved to Oakland where John worked at the family business, Sharps Motor Co. When John retired, they enjoyed traveling their motor home and, together, visited every state, Canada, and Mexico over a period of 25 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed homemaking, sewing, and service to her church and community. She is survived by her son, John Allen Sharps, JR. and daughter in law, Sandy Sharps; daughter, Sue Sharps Rickert and son in law, Marshall Rickert; grandchildren, Philip John Sharps, Carrie Rickert Root, Lorne Marshall Rickert and wife Kristin Leigh Rickert; and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, John A. Sharps; a son, Donald William Sharps; a granddaughter, Michelle Renee Rowlands; and a great granddaughter, Victoria Christine Sharps. The family will receive friends at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, March 6th from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will be held in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 6 S 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, March 7th at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Talbot Hospice, 586 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD 21601.
