William E. “Bill” Ream, Sr., 83, Swanton, went to meet the Lord on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at his home. Born on February 2, 1935 in Oakland, he is the son of the late Bert C. and Eunice L. (Smith) Ream. Bill loved playing bluegrass music and was an award winning mandolin player. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed growing vegetable gardens. Bill was a member of the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 616 and the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren. Bill is survived by his bride of 65 years, Betty R. (Sweitzer) Ream; five children, Peggy L. Ryan and husband Jeff, Wilma R. Stemple and husband Bobby, William E. Ream, Jr., Ken C. Ream, all of Oakland, Barbara Ann Newman and husband Matthew of Warwick, NY; grandchildren, Mandy M. DeWitt, Rob L. Stemple and wife Jenny, Jade R. Ream, Andrea N. Hines and husband Bill, Andrew P. Newman; great grandchildren, Aidan L. DeWitt, Payton G. DeWitt, Malaki Hines; a sister, Naomi R. Fisher and husband Chester; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by three siblings, Alice Hershman, Evelyn E. Ream and Norman T. Reams. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, December 11 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at the Pine Grove Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, December 12 at 11AM with Pastor Gary Clem officiating. Interment will be held in Taylor Sines Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff from Hospice of Garrett County for the compassion and care shown to Bill.
