William Kildow

William Patrick Kildow, 85, of Oakland died on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on April 7, 1930 in Oakland, he was a son of the late Michael V. and Inez N. (Hamill) Kildow. He was a 1947 graduate of Oakland High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Education from Frostburg State and, in 1960, earned his Master's degree from Columbia Teacher's College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War as a cryptographer for the 7th Signal Co. He was an English teacher in Baltimore County for 34 years prior to his retirement in 1986 and also was a critic teacher for Towson State University before moving to Garrett County in 2000. He was a member of the American Legion Post #71 in Oakland and the Deer Park VFW Post # 10077. In addition to spending time with this family and friends, he loved golfing and was a member of the Oakland Golf Club. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Annis "Deirdre" (Duff) Kildow, to whom he was married on August 20, 1960; two children, Sally Staley of Oakland and Patrick Kildow of Park City, Utah; two grandchildren, David Staley and Rachel Staley; a sister, Elizabeth Hesen; special nieces, Catherine Vincent and Nancy Perkins; two cats, Tucker and Thomas; and many other dear extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Michael V. Kildow, Jr. and a special cousin, Kitty Gonder. A memorial service will be held in the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, August 29th at 11 AM with Pastor Richard Egtvedt officiating. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or HART for Animals, PO Box 623, McHenry, MD 21541.
