William Gower

William Guy Gower, 76, of Oakland died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on October 30, 1938 in Erwin, WV, he was a son of the late Herbert and Kathryn (Jones) Gower. He had worked for the Kingford Charcoal Plant, had worked in in a stone quarry and had also been skilled in wood working. In addition to spending time with his family, he loved to watch Gunsmoke and western movies and enjoyed listening to gospel music. He is survived by his loving wife of over 53 years, Maxine Florence (Dillsworth) Gower; two sons, Ray Gower and wife Debbie of Terra Alta, WV and Bob Gower and wife Paula of Oakland; grandchildren, Bobby Gower and girlfriend Josi Mauk, Billy Gower and Cody Gower, all of Oakland; a brother, Joseph Gower and companion May Cartwright of Stemple Ridge, WV; two sisters, Mary Pierson of Independence, WV and Alice Hartsell of Reedsville, WV; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Saturday, May 9th from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor John Skipper officiating.
