William Friend

William Spedden Friend "Billy", 59, of Davis, WV, passed away on July 2, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on December 18, 1963, in Elkins, he was the son of the late Richard and Anita (Sutton) Friend.

Billy was a graduate of Tucker County High School and served in the United States Army National Guard where he became an Aeroscout Observer. He worked for AES Warrior Run as a Control Room Operator for the last 25 years where his coworkers became like family. Billy attended Community Bible Church of Davis and most recently, Crossroads Church of Oakland, MD. He was also a proud member of the Davis Fire Department and the Elkins Pilot's Club.

Billy enjoyed scuba diving, Taekwondo, woodworking, boating, kayaking, golfing, building and flying remote control planes, helicopters, and drones, watching movies and studying Bible prophecy. He spent countless hours volunteering as a fireman and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Billy's greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jennifer (Helmick) Friend, to whom he was married on August 19, 1989; three daughters, Marie Bolyard and husband Derek of Elkins, Bethany Friend of Morgantown, Rachel Friend and boyfriend Clayton Ball of Morgantown; three grandchildren, Haylee, Aubree, and Noelle Bolyard; three siblings, Ed Friend and wife Amie of Disputanta, VA, Andy Friend and wife Reatha of New Creek, Cathy Camden of Morgantown; and bonus brother, Donny Sutton of Fairbanks, AK.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Hannah Friend, in August of 2004.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM, at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 11 AM at the Community Bible Church of Davis with Pastor John Callaway and Pastor Dave Marsh officiating. Military and fireman honors will be presented at the Davis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Davis Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 215, Davis, WV 26260, Community Bible Church, PO Box 14, Davis, WV 26260, or Crossroads Church, 17781 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550.
