William Evans

William Melvin Evans, age 71, of Elk Garden, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at UPMC Western Maryland. Born on November 25, 1948 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Melvin and Mae Evans. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy and with the First Marine Division, First Medical Battalion during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Allegany Mining and Westvaco Fine Papers Division. Bill loved spending time working on the family farm and with the apples of his eye, his three beautiful granddaughters.

Bill is survived by his wife, Esther S. Evans; a son, Jason Evans and wife Jennifer; a daughter, Krista Jones and husband Stephen; three granddaughters, Alexandria Jones, Bailey Evans, Piper Evans; a brother, Robert Evans and wife Cindy; a sister, Darla Smith and husband John; numerous step sisters and a brother; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the House of Prayer, Hartmansville, WV, on Saturday, June 27, 2020, from 11AM to 1 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Leslie Hipp officiating. Interment with military honors will immediately follow in the Bayard Cemetery. For safety, we kindly encourage all in attendance to wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and If you are sick, stay home and visit with the family in the future.
