William Leroy Emory, farmer, soldier, and craftsmen, 77, of Bittinger died on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on August 15, 1936 in Bittinger, he was the son of the late Richard Leroy and Martha May (Beachy) Emory. He was a graduate of Northern High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army in Germany and France. After returning home, he started a drywall contracting business and was very involved with his community. He was a member of the Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department, serving as president for 18 years. He also attended the Friendsville United Methodist Church where he enjoyed serving as a member of the choir. He spent many hours working in his garden to produce fine vegetables to share with his friends and family. He was, by nature, an informal historian of Garrett County, as there was little he didn't know about the last 100 years of occurrences on the surrounding family farms. William was a quiet, devoted family man who treasured his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 50 blessed years, Thelma Ruth (Frazee) Emory; sons, William Dwight Emory, and wife Diane of Grantsville, and Nathaniel Richard Emory; grandchildren, Garrett and Reagan Emory; sisters, Mary Jane Emory of New York, NY, Kathleen Fratz and husband Gary of Accident, Florence Lunger and husband Gene of Richmond, VA, Helen Clare and husband Ken of Alexandria, VA; numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by many. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 29th at 11 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bittinger with Pastor Nathan Hall and Pastor Edd Myers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendsville United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO 215 Friendsville, MD 21531, Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 27 Bittinger, MD 21550, and Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271 Oakland, MD 21550. Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A. is assisting the family with arrangements.
