Willard Hayden

Willard K. Hayden, 85, of Mt. Lake Park died on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland. Born on June 7, 1927 in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Gay and Mattie Hayden. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during WWII. His first job was for Sanders and Harshman's Garage and he had worked for Island Creek Coal prior to his retirement. Willard was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Oakland, the Knights of Pythias, a 50-year member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post #71 in Oakland and their Honor Guard, and the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores (Evans) Hayden; two daughters, Tambra Ewing and husband Bill and Cynthia Parsons; grandchildren, Christopher Ewing and wife Kristin, Ryan Ewing and wife Emily, Tyler Ewing and Mathew Parsons; and a great granddaughter, Sophie Ewing. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, April 25th from 6 to 9 PM. Additional visitation will be in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland on Friday, April 26th from 10 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. John Parks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Humane Society of Garrett County, PO Box 115, Oakland, MD 21550 or to a charity of one's choice.
