Wilda Kathryn Fitzwater, 80, of Swanton, MD passed away at her home on Saturday July 30, 2011.

Born May 2, 1931 in Altamont, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Dora V. (Steiding) Schmidt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Fitzwater.

Surviving are: son, Chris Fitzwater and wife Clara, daughters, Dianna Breeden and husband Wayne, Cynthia Wagner and husband Tim, and Jan and husband GK Parandhamaia; sixteen Grandchildren, and 17 Great-grandchildren.Wilda has four surviving sisters, and one brother-in-law, Marie Tasker of Ephrata, WA, Mildred Nethken, Hagerstown, Margaret Garner and husband Glenn, Bridgewater, VA and Dolores Poling of Hagerstown, MD. She is survived by brother and sister-in-laws, Peggy Riley of Waldorf, MD, Melvin and Eileen Custer, Swanton, Helen Friend, Swanton, and Jarleth Fitzwater-Height of Oakland, and many cousins, Nieces, nephews friends and loved ones.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister and Grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Wilda also enjoyed sewing. She spent countless hours making many items including Potato Bags which were sold at Penn Alps Gift Shop and baby doll clothes for her very good and dear friend, Carol Cleveland who dresses baby dolls and gives them away.

Wilda was a member of Mt. Lake Ind. Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church although she was unable to attend in her later years due to her declining health.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A. 21 N 2nd St. Oakland, MD on Monday August 1, 2011 from 2-4 &7-9pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman officiating.

Private interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Swanton.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed to the scholarships at Garrett College in her fathers' name, William Henry Schmidt or her brother-in-law's scholarship of Courtney Tasker; or her mothers' scholarship in the name of Dora V. Schmidt at James Madison University.
