Weldon Nicholas

January 24, 1934 — June 21, 2012

Weldon Keith Nicholas, Sr. "Nick",78, of Oakland went to be with the Lord on June 21, 2012 after a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Ivydale, WV on January 24, 1934, the son of the late Harry Cecil and Mamie Ruth (Rhodes) Nicholas. He served in the US Navy and retired from the National Security Agency as a computer analyst. He operated his own business "Nicholas Sales" on White Church Road where he conducted a weekly auction. He enjoyed being around people and making them laugh. He is remembered for his intelligence, kindness, generosity, and gentleness. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Eloise Matthews Nicholas of Oakland; six children, Patty Zillifro and husband Lynn of Clarksburg WV, Keith Nicholas and wife Ginny of Oakland, Billy Nicholas and companion Ann Newport of Terra Alta, WV, Robin Nicholas and companion Bob Hoffman of Fairmont, WV, Jimmy Nicholas of Oakland, and Janet Nicholas and companion Wayne Golliday of Crainsville; eight grandchildren, Sammi Beery and husband Tony of Rittman, OH, Brandi Shahan of Rittman, OH, Jeremy Shahan of Clarksburg, WV, Billy Nicholas Jr., Logan Beeman, Rachael Beeman, Dean Hoffman and Dustin Hoffman, all of Oakland; two great grandchildren, Lucas Hoffman and Preston Beery; a sister, Eileen Metcalf; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Darrell Nicholas. He lived his last eight months in Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home and greatly enjoyed the care he received. He touched the hearts of all that he met and gave each of us everlasting memories. Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A. of Oakland is handling the arrangements and a private memorial service will be conducted on July 6, 2012 with Rev. Russell Liller and Rev. Don Matthews officiating. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Western Maryland Health System Foundation, 12500 Willowbrook Rd, Cumberland, MD 21502; Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, 1113 Mary Dr., Oakland, MD 21550; or Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
