Walter Campbell

July 12, 1921 — March 28, 2012

Walter Franklin Campbell, 90, of Oakland went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born in Vindex on July 12, 1921, he was the son of the late Robert and Bertie Alice (Barb) Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth A. (Martin) Campbell on August 3, 1999; his son in law, Douglas L. Schenk on August 30, 1999; one sister, Ellen Marie McRobie; his aunt, Nora (Barb) Wickelgren; and his uncle, Roy Barb. Walter retired from Columbia Gas of Maryland. Earlier in his life, he worked for Coca Cola Bottling Works in Oakland. He and his wife were active members of the Loch Lynn Evangelical United Brethren in Christ Church for over forty years. Later on they attended the Deep Creek Baptist Church where Rev. Donald Wilson was a faithful pastor, friend and visitor. He was a WWII Veteran where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Meritorious Unit Award. He was a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 of Oakland and the Deer Park VFW Post 10077. Walter is survived by two daughters, Carole Jean Forman and husband Thomas of Folkston, GA and Katherine L. Schenk of McHenry; a granddaughter, Jennifer F. Wright and husband Howard of Summerville, SC; and his true companion and buddy, Pug. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2 PM in the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD with the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Deer Park VFW Post 10077 and the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71. Memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 10077, 4107 Maryland Hwy., Deer Park, MD 21550 or the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71, PO Box 492, Oakland, MD 21550. Thanks to all the organizations and friends that visited him in the nursing home.
