Violet Faye Lewis, 72, of Oakland, died June 13, 2012 at home with her family by her side. Born August 3, 1939, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (Paugh) Fickes. She was a graduate of Bruce High School and attended Potomac State College. She was a woman who was ahead of her time in a business dominated by males. As owner of Meadow Mountain Homes, she was a successful contractor for over twenty years and was Maryland's first female Homebuilders Association president. She was an active member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and attended 1st Baptist Church in Avon Park, Fla. in the winter months. She was a past member of the Junior Women's Civic Club and worked with various charities. She devoted much of her time and energy as a volunteer to others, including the Emergency Hotline at Garrett Memorial Hospital, the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Oakland and the Center for Great Apes in Wauchula, Fla. In 1959, Violet married Ronald S. Lewis and together, they raised five children. She is survived by her husband, Ronald S. Lewis; four daughters, Rhonda Lewis; Angie Cain and husband Benjamin; Patty Pierleonardi and husband Pete; and Donna Lewis; a son, John Lewis. She will also be sorely missed by 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and her brother, Joseph Fickes. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 at Pleasant View Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Wally Weeks officiating.
