Victor Homer Kope, 86 of Aurora, WV, passed away, Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Oakland Nursing & Rehab Center, Oakland, MD.
Born June 10, 1924 in Phillips, PA, he was the son of the late Chambers and Lucetta (Nethken) Kope. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Irene (Tripplet) Kope and Mary Jane Kope and daughters, Kathleen, Iris, Iretta and Sharon Kope.
Victor was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. Victor served as a belly gunner on a B17 bomber and was credited with 35 missions receiving among other medals the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from Maryland State Highway Administration.
Surviving are: sons-Glen Kope and Frank Kope, both of Terra Alta, WV; daughter-Delora Baker, Terra Alta, WV; step-sons-James Elliott, Swanton, MD and Carl Elliott, Aurora, WV; step-daughter-Martha Reams-Deer Park, MD; brother-John Wesley Kope, Ashtabula, Ohio; Grandchildren-seven; great-grandchildren-thirteen; step-grandchildren-eight; step-great-grandchildren-twelve and one great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A, 21 N. 2nd Street, Oakland, MD, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Hi-Way Assembly of God, Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Friend officiating.
Interment will be in the Paradise Cemetery, Sand Flat Road.
Military services will be accorded at graveside.
