Reverend Vernard Tasker, 86, of Oakland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 surrounded by his family. Born on July 8, 1926 in Garrett County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Grace (Hanlin) Tasker. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in WWII. Reverend Tasker was a minister of the gospel for 56 years, the last 25 of which, he pastored the Church of God of Prophecy in Elkins, WV. He moved back to Oakland when his wife became ill in 2006. He is survived by eleven children, including four sons, Randy Tasker and wife Sandy (Poling) of Hutton, Chris Tasker and wife Paula (Wilson) of Deer Park, Daniel Tasker and wife Pam (Madigan) of Deer Park, and George Tasker and wife Patty (Upole) of Deer Park; seven daughters, Diane Dryman and husband Dave of Rockville, Shirley Towne and husband Neal of Oakland, Nancy Bays and husband Glen of Orando, FL, Debbie Rosnick and Bill Stemple of Oakland, Carolyn Falls and husband Leo of Oakland, Connie Bowles and husband Ron of Frederick, and Anita Sturns and husband JR of Elkins, WV; a part of the family, Sarah Moore of Oakland; a brother, Robert Tasker of Oakland; 24 grandchildren; and 40 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lillian "LL" (Cooper) Tasker. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Friday, March 15th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, March 16th at 11 AM with Rev. Kevin Bodey and Beverly Corrigan officiating. Interment will be in Potomac Camp Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
