Vera Tichnell

Vera B. (Welch) Tichnell, 89, of Oakland died on August 10, 2012 at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home. Born on October 25, 1922 in Eglon, WV, the only daughter of Bert and Alice (Soelters) Welch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick W. Tichnell in October 2011. She was a lifetime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oakland. She attended and graduated from Oakland High School, attended Cathermans Business School and worked for the government where she met and later married Fred, her husband of 69 years. Besides her family, she loved to paint, leaving many special prints to her family and friends over the years along with very original craft items she made. She loved the beach, walking and collecting shells. Vera loved to bowl and was an avid cat lover. Her wishes were to be cremated and buried with her husband's ashes. Vera is survived by seven children: two sons, Gary Tichnell and wife Kathy of Pasadena and Fred Tichnell and wife Jean of Falling Waters, WV; five daughters, Susan Colaw of Petersburg, WV, Linda Margraff and husband Edward of Accident, Robin Smith and husband Denzil of Deer Park, Marsha Todd Bosley and husband Craig of Aurora, WV, and Dawn Panther and husband Ed of Oakland; twelve grandchildren, Timothy Colaw, Todd Eric Colaw, Erika Hodziewich, Melissa Margraff, Aimee McFarland, Ronnie and Dustin Smith, Ary Snyder, Josh Bosley, Julia Simmons, Nathaniel and Chad Panther; great grandchildren, Stephanie Harman, Colin and Kyle McFarland, Misty Lewis, Ronnie Smith, Jr., Trentin Snyder, Brooklyn Simmons, McNeely Bosley; great great grandchildren, Bode Panther, Austin Harman, Xander Lewis. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Tichnell Cemetery, Chestnut Grove, Swanton, MD. Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garrett County Animal Shelter, 152 Oakland Sang Run Rd., Oakland, MD 21550.
