Thomas D. Kight, 94, of Oakland passed away peacefully in the presence of caring loved ones on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on May 14, 1927, in Oakland, MD, he was the son of the late Theodore A. and Medelia C. (Park) Kight. He began a successful insurance career in 1950 with the establishment of Kight's Insurance in Oakland until his retirement in 1993. He served on the Board of Directors for the Garrett National Bank, was a member of the American Legion, the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lion's Club, and the Elks of Oakland. Tom served on many levels as a faithful member of St. Marks Lutheran church for decades and later was a member of Mt. Lake Park Independent Baptist Church. In addition to spending time with his family, Tom loved the outdoors, especially spending time on the lake.
He is survived by his three children, Thomas T. Kight of Westminster, Deborah Hinebaugh and husband Harry of Media, PA, and Frank Kight and wife Susanne of Oakland; grandchildren, Thomas P. Kight, Anne Eunson, Daniel Kight, and Andrew Kight and wife Lindsey; two great-granddaughters, Grace Eunson and Ezra Kight; loving and supportive sister, Lois A. Wilt of OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Nancy F. Kight; two brothers, Wayne and Vernon Kight; and a sister, Delores Harsh.
Friends will be received at the Mtn. Lake Independent Baptist Church, 1005 Broadford Road, Oakland on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Matthew Trezise officiating. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery with military honors accorded by the combined honor guard of the Deer Park VFW Post 10077 and the Oakland American Legion Post #71. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550, or the Mtn. Lake Park Independent Baptist Church.
