Thomas Hinton

Thomas William Lee Hinton, Jr., 70, of Oakland, died on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. Born on August 30, 1946, he was the son of Frances (Burgess) Hinton and the late Thomas W. L. Hinton, Sr. Tommy attended Howard High School in Ellicott City, MD. He proudly served two tours in the Vietnam War as a soldier in the United States Army where he earned a Purple Heart medal for an injury received in combat action. He retired from Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission in Prince George's County, MD where he was employed as a water plant operator for 30 years. Tommy loved riding motorcycles and was a former member of the Harley Owners Group (HOG) of Baltimore. He enjoyed worldwide adventures with his family on and off the motorcycles. Closer to home, he enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening and raising chickens. He was known to spend time tinkering out in the garage. Most of all, he was a man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Tommy is survived by his bride of 40 years, Susan C. (Boger) Hinton; a son, David Hinton and wife Natalie of Westminster; a daughter, Sarah DeValk and husband Matthew of Cumberland; grandchildren, Tristen, Joseph, Arabella, Tatianna and Gideon DeValk; his mother, Frances Hinton of Maysville; his dog, Gus and granddogs, Alice and Shiner. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Hinton, Sr. Friends and family will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd Street, Oakland on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 3-7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
