Thomas Glotfelty

Thomas Austin Glotfelty, 75, of Oakland went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Born on August 12, 1939 in Crellin, he was the son of the late Samuel Austin and Leona Alvera (Wilt) Glotfelty. He was a former member of the United States Army National Guard and a graduate of Southern High School, University of Maryland and West Virginia University. He was a vocational agriculture teacher for Kingwood High School, Northern High School and also taught in Point Pleasant, WV. He was a faithful member of the Gortner Union Church. Tom's goal in life was to honor and obey God and to make a home for his wife and his special needs children. He enjoyed worshipping God through music and song. In his youth he enjoyed hunting, photography, camping, and the great outdoors. He had a great interest in history and enjoyed writing about and relating interesting and little-known stories from the past. He is survived by his loving wife, Esther A. (Beachy) Glotfelty, to whom he was married on May 3, 2003; his children, Thomas Austin Glotfelty, Jr and Rebecca Lynn Glotfelty, both at home; a brother, Cecil Carlton Glotfelty and wife Alma of Mt. Lake Park; and seven nieces and nephews as well as a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann (Smith) Glotfely and a brother, Dwight Glotfelty. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, September 30th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and at the Gortner Union Church on Wednesday, October 1st from 10 to 11 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Steven Sauder officiating. Interment will follow in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in c/o Esther Glotfelty, 2667 Hutton Rd., Oakland, MD 21550, to assist with the care of Tom's special needs children or to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
