Thomas Richard Friend, 65, of Swanton died Monday, March 19, 2012 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. He resided at the Oakland Nursing and Rehab Center in Oakland. Born on July 2, 1946 in Keyser, WV, he was the son of the late Chester and Louise (Howell) Friend. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Dayton Chester Friend. Thomas is survived by one brother, Gerald E. Friend, Sr. and wife Phyllis of Swanton; two nephews, Chester E. Friend and Gerald E. Friend, Jr.; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; and one great great-nephew. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD on Thursday, March 22nd from 6 to 8 PM. Additional visitation will be held at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Swanton on Friday, March 23rd from 12 to 1 PM at which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor Angie Cosner officiating. Interment will follow in George Cemetery, Swanton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Swanton, c/o Joan Riley, 876 Thousand Acres Rd., Swanton, MD 21561.
