Stuart Hamill

Stuart “Stu” Fairfax Hamill, III, of Oakland, passed away at age 69 at his home on March 5, 2019. Stuart was born on April 19, 1949 in Oakland to the late Marjorie R. Hamill and the late Circuit Court Judge Stuart F. Hamill, II. He attended Southern High School where he played football and Frostburg State College. Stuart served in the United States Navy and the United States Merchant Marines as a Captain. His Merchant Marines duties included service ranging from Maine to the Yucatan Peninsula. He also attended numerous maritime institutes. Stuart was a member of the Oakland Elks Lodge #2481 and Proctor Kildow American Legion Post #71. He loved traveling, sports, motorcycling and boating. Stuart is survived by his partner, Barbara J. Lucas; a brother, Geoffrey Hamill; a sister, Elizabeth H. Hart; a half-sister, Linda S. Ropka and a step-brother, Rick Bailey. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Buster. Information regarding Stuart’s memorial service will be announced at a later date. The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland, has been entrusted with arrangements.
