Stirling Vincent Kehoe, 97, of Oakland, died on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on October 10, 1921, he was the son of the late James Henry and Ethel Marie (Davis) Kehoe. On December 28, 1954 Stirling was united in marriage to his loving wife Betty Lou (Miles) Kehoe who passed away March 16, 2013. He is survived by his loving daughters, Debra Barlow (Richard) of Washington, PA and Donna Groves of Oakland; grandchildren, Allyson France (David), Zachary Barlow (Maryann), Kevin Kehoe (Rose), Courtney Huntoon (Johnathan), Wesley Groves, Ashley Groves, and Jordan Groves; 10 loving great-grandchildren, Teagan, Mckenna, Emerson, Beau, Beckett, Liam, Stella, Everett, Jayden and Jovani; and his sister, Genevieve Snodgrass of Havre de Grace, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Betty (Miles) Kehoe; a son, David Stirling Kehoe, whom he missed so dearly; and brothers, James Kehoe and Charles (Lindy) Kehoe.
Stirling graduated from Bel Air High School in 1940 and continued his education at the University of Maryland until 1943, when he interrupted his education and entered into the Army. He served in WWII with the 26th Infantry Division and was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in action. Stirling was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 and he returned to the University of Maryland to complete his education. After obtaining his degree, Stirling began teaching in Prince George’s County. In 1949, he accepted a position with Wilson Sporting Goods Company in Washington, D.C. In 1960, he built and opened his own sporting goods business, The Varsity Sport Shop, Inc. in College Park, which covered all schools and colleges and other retail businesses. After retiring in 1980, he and the love of his life, Betty moved to Oakland.
In accordance with his wishes, a private service will be held at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland.
