Stacy Fint

June 13, 1953 — December 3, 2018

Stacy Shockley Fint of Aurora passed away December 3,2018 at the age of 65 surrounded by her family. She lived life with great enthusiasm and will be greatly missed.

Stacy was born in 1953 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Joshua A. Shockley, Jr. and Glendora Lee Nine Shockley. She spent much of her childhood in Bayard, WV. As a student at Southern Garrett High School, she was a Rotary Exchange student for a year in Brazil and became fluent in Portuguese, an experience that went on to influence the rest of her life. She graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Political Science in 1975.

In 1976 she married Joseph W. Fint and moved to Aurora, where they raised three children. She considered being a wife and mother her highest calling. Stacy was also passionate about community service, and was a frequent school volunteer, longtime leader of the Aurora Pioneers 4-H Club and active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a substitute teacher and loved being a friend to kids.

As her children got older, Stacy embarked on a second career teaching English as a Second Language and worked diligently over many years to obtain her master’s degree in TESOL from WVU in 1997. She started as a part-time instructor at the WVU Intensive English Program and rose to the position of director. Stacy was not only an educator, but a stand-in mother to international students from across the globe.

Stacy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Joe; children Courtney (Greg) Zimmerman of Akron, OH, Joseph (Indhy) Fint of Lone Tree, CO, Rebecca (Brent) Fint-Clark of Morgantown; grandchildren Aurora “Rory” Clark and Finn and Oliver Zimmerman; sister Clara Shockley of Savannah, GA; and many beloved extended family, nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues and students. Preceding her in death were her parents, maternal grandparents Edwin F. “Rab” and Gladys Purgitt Nine and paternal grandparents Joshua A. and Mary Swindell Shockley.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 6 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held, 1:00 pm, Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev.
