Shirley Herndon

Shirley A. Herndon, 80, of Oakland, our beloved mother, was called to her eternal resting place on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. She entered the world on Sunday, November 30, 1941 in Kingwood, WV, the daughter of the late Cecil R. and Nettie R. (Wilhelm) Royce.

Shirley attended Bethel United Methodist Church where she was active in her younger years. She enjoyed reading, planting flowers and above all, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Deborah A. Spurlock and husband Rodney, and Val J. Teagarden and husband Sherwin; three grandchildren, Jennifer Teagarden Parks, Stephen Teagarden and Travis Spurlock; along with two great grandchildren, Emelee and Cole Parks; two brothers, Roger Royce and wife Carol, and Cecil Royce and wife Kay; two sisters, Virginia Emelee Dewitt and Janie Royce; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Davis and husband Harry, and Linda Royce; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Eugene Herndon; a sister, Peggy Rose Nester; three brothers, Donald Eugene Royce, Guy Radabaugh and Kenneth R. Royce Sr.; as well as a brother-in-law, Paul "Eddie" Dewitt.

Per her request, Shirley will be cremated with a celebration of life dinner at a later date. Shirley's family would like to thank Hospice of Garrett County, along with Cherry Hill Assisted Living for the wonderful care and support shown to her. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
