Sheridan Layman

Sheridan William Layman, 101, of Aurora, WV passed away February 14, 2016 at Pineview Ridge Nursing Home. He was born July 29, 1914 in Bayard, WV a son of the late Charles Frederick and Anna Boring Layman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Corrine Pifer Layman, also preceding him in death, 1 son, David Carroll Layman, 6 brothers, and 4 sisters. He is survived by 1 son, Charles (Charlotte) Layman, Tallahassee, Florida, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. Layman served his country in the United States Army as a World War II combat veteran. He worked as a coal miner. He was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church and VFW Post# 578. He could be seen weekly mowing grass and in the mornings would partake in a daily devotional and read his Bible. Every other Wednesday he would attend the breakfast club. He took pride in his grandsons and granddaughters. Friends will be received at Aurora United Methodist Church, Saturday, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, the funeral hour, with Rev. Cheryl George and Rev. John Foy officiating. Interment will follow in the Aurora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aurora United Methodist Church c/o 7 Knotts Road Aurora, WV 26716.
