Sara Lynn Massi of Canaan Valley, WV died at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA on September 23, 2011.
Born June 15, 1944 at Baltimore, MD she was the daughter of Margaret Bird Woodrum and the late Howard P. Woodrum. She grew up in Nimitz, WV and was a graduate of Hinton High School, Hinton, WV and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Concord College, Athens, WV. As a teacher of mathematics for 43 years, Sara touched the lives of many people in Manassas, VA, Prince George County, MD, Kanawha County, WV, San Antonio, TX, Houston, TX and Charlotte, NC. She and her husband, Joseph Massi decided to come home to the mountains of West Virginia with their dog, Bernie, to retire in Old Black Bear Woods, Canaan Valley, Davis, WV in 2008.
Besides her husband of 43 years, she is survived by their four children Gina Marie Fingleman and her husband Gary of Katy, TX, Stephen Paul Massi and his wife Stacy of Katy, TX, Anita Jo Edwards and her husband Aaron of Houston, TX and Eva Lynn Hines of Albemarle, NC, and her ten wonderful grandchildren Adam Fingleman, Anna Fingleman, Sara Massi, Samuel Massi, Simon Massi, Edie Edwards, Nathan Edwards, Sophie Edwards, Riley Massi and Jacob Hines, and her mother Margaret Woodrum of Nimitz, WV, her sister Julie Kirk and husband William of Charleston, WV, her father-in-law Orlando Massi and sister-in-law Candita Massi both of Olney, MD.
Sara attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Thomas, WV, where the Funeral Mass will be held on September 27, 2011 at 10:00AM with Father John DiBacco as celebrant. Friends will be received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, WV on Monday Sept. 26 from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
