Ruth I Filsinger
Falls Church Va.
Ruth I Filsinger, 87, was born September 7, 1922 in Deer Park, Md. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Falls Church, Va. on Friday, August 6, 2010. After graduating high school in Oakland, she moved to Washington, DC where she worked at the State Dept and then the Navy Dept until she retired after over 50 years in government service.
She had an interesting life, as she was able to travel abroad to attend meetings in Europe after WWII while with the State Dept. On one of the trips she had passage on the Queen Mary.
She studied at George Washington University and received her bachelor and master degrees. Over the years, she made many trips on her own to European and Asian countries, as she was interested in other cultures and loved to travel. If any one planned a trip, she was the first one packed and ready to go. She loved gardening, reading and taking classes. She was an active member in the Iris and Chrysanthemum Societies and was a judge for the flower shows. After retiring, she joined a book club, as she was an avid reader and filled her home with books. She loved playing board games with her family and was usually on the winning team in Trival Pursuit.
She was the 5th child in a family of 10 children and was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Mary (Ruge) Filsinger, two sisters. Ann Filsinger and Mary Reardon, and one brother, Charles Filsinger and two brothers in law, John Reardon and Ralph Pritts, Jr.
She is survived by three sisters, Frances Goetten of Naples, Fl, Patricia Filsinger and Barbara Pritts, Deer Park, and three brothers, Robert Filsinger, Deer Park, Philip (Babe) Filsinger and Kate, Oakland, and John Filsinger and Alice, Deer Park. And one sister in law, Rosemary Filsinger, Deer Park and many nieces and nephews plus grand nieces and grand nephews. A beloved aunt, Katherine Schaeffer, Baltimore and some cousins in the Baltimore area, survive her. A special and very patient nephew, Ralph Filsinger and wife, Esther, gave her much needed support in her later years.
She was a member of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Falls Church.
