Roy Shaffer

Roy Robert Shaffer 79 of Corinth, WV, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.

Born October 17, 1931 in Mt. Rose, WV, he was the son of the late Roy F. and Nora Catherine (Stout) Shaffer. Also preceded in death by eldest son Robert Frranklin Shaffer, brother-Russell Shaffer, sister-Blanche Metheny, half-brother-Edward Leggett and brother-in-law-Helmuth Heise.

Roy was a veteran having served with the United States Army in the Korea War, had worked on a gas well rigger and dug graves. He was a member of the Terra Alta VFW, an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed gardening and his greatest joy was his family. Roy found great pleasure in visits from his great-grandchildren.

Surviving are: wife-Gladys Ann (Lambert) Shaffer; sons-Ryan J. Shaffer and wife, Terri, Terra Alta, WV, Bryan M. Shaffer and Johnny A. Shaffer, both of Corinth, WV; daughter-Anita Scheffel and husband, George, Oakland, MD; grandchildren: Shawn Shaffer, Larynn Johnson, Sabrina Scheffel, Jasmine Scheffel, Brittnay Scheffel, George "Brutus" Scheffel, Jakob "Bubba" Scheffel, Megan Shaffer Wolf & husband, Michael, Amy Shaffer and Jennifer Shaffer; great-grandchildren: Peyton Shaffer, Lukas Wolf, Ava Wolf, Maximus McCalla, Hank Lewis and Henry Blaine; sister-in-law-Evelyn Heise; nieces and nephews-Martin Heise, Gary Heise, Douglas Shaffer, Kevin Shaffer, Paul Metheny, Diane Knotts and Donna

Per Roy's request his body was cremated.
