Roy J. Peterman, 89, of Mt. Lake Park very peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 1, 2012 surrounded by his loving wife and children at his home. Born on May 6, 1923 in Newport, PA, he was the son of the late Abram F. and Daisy L. (Murphy) Peterman. Roy was a deacon at New Beginnings Fellowship Church, a member of the Deer Park VFW Post 10077 and the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 in Oakland. Roy loved to play and sing gospel, country and western music with his current band being Hammers and Strings. Roy served in both the European and Pacific Theaters of WWII with the 32nd Medical Battalion, 97th Infantry Division. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Matisa Equipment out of France, and retired from Allegheny Mining. He is survived by his wife, Jean (Stonebreaker) Peterman; five daughters, Jeanne Mae Liller and husband Russell of Oakland, Pamela Robertson and husband Craig of KS, Debbie Glotfelty and husband Mike of Oakland, Theresa Ringer and husband Don of WV, and Sonja Murphy and husband Terry of Oakland; two sons, Gary Peterman and wife Joyce of CA and Keith Peterman and wife Trish of PA; twenty grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; one great great grandson; four sisters, Hazel and Pat of PA and Florence and Betty Jane of FL; and one brother, Jim of PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Roy J. "Pete" Peterman, Jr.; a sister, Kathleen; a brother, Leo; and a great grandson, Joey. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, September 5th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, September 6th at 11 AM with Rev. Russell Liller and Rev. Jay Allison officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett County Memorial Gardens with military honors. Roy was much loved and a great influence on everyone he met. We will always remember our Dad by reciting this scripture: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course and I kept the faith."
