Roy Guthrie

November 6, 1947 — February 7, 2025

LaVale, formerly of Swanton

Roy Gene Guthrie, 77, of LaVale and formerly of Swanton, Maryland, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, February 7, 2025, at home with his loving companion of 21 years, Katherine Wolf, by his side. Born on November 6, 1947, he was the son of the late George and Virginia (Savage) Guthrie.

Roy loved God more than anybody or anything and insisted on going to church even when he needed the assistance of his church brothers and sisters. Roy attended Solid Rock Baptist Church in Oakland, Maryland.

Roy was a mechanic and worked for Tressler's Garage for over 30 years. He also owned and operated his own garage for over 60 years. Roy had one earthly love in his life and that was his garage, where you could find him any time of the day or night.

He is survived by his sisters, Sharon McCormick of Uniontown, PA and Sandy Sisler of Oakland; brothers, Randall Guthrie of Hedgesville, WV, Rex Guthrie of Vindex, MD, Terry Knox of Statesville, NC, and Robert Knox of Lonaconing, MD; his daughter, Patricia True of Kitzmiller, MD; also, Rodney Guthrie and Christopher Guthrie, who he raised as sons; several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by Steve Davis, who Roy considered his best friend, and John "Grover" Groves, who was a special friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lee (Sweitzer) Guthrie, and two brothers, Roger Guthrie and Ronald Guthrie.

Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 6 to 8 PM and on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 9 to 10 AM. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM with Pastor Todd Michaels officiating. Interment will be in the George Cemetery, Swanton.

A special thank you goes to the good people at Lowe's in Oakland, especially Teresa Gross, who always like to tease Roy, and he looked forward to going there just so she would. They made his Christmas very special and treated him like a member of the Lowe's family.

At Roy's request there are to be no flowers.

The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home is proud to be honoring Roy's wishes.
