Rosetta Rodeheaver

October 12, 1932 — March 28, 2015

Rosetta Mae Copeman Rodeheaver passed away suddenly on March 28, 2015 at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. Born on October 12, 1932 in Hazelton, WV, she was a daughter of the late A.B. "Jack" and Jessie Mildred (Moyers) Copeman. She spent her childhood years on their farm in Preston County enjoying the company of three siblings, Ellery Wheeler, Edwin Copeman and Rita Buxton. Rosetta graduated from Bruceton High School in 1949 and later received a degree in Education with an emphasis in Home Economics at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Rosetta married Robert Franklin Rodeheaver on November 11, 1950 at the home of his parents, Franklin and Ruby Rodeheaver in Hazelton, WV. As newlyweds, Rosetta and Robert lived at Cheat Lake while beginning their college studies at West Virginia University. Upon Robert's completion of his college education, they established residency in the Oakland area where Bob began his career as an educator in the public school system in 1952 and Rosetta began her life as a wife, mother and active member of the Oakland community. After completing a Bachelors' degree in Education and Home Economics and certifications in both reading and special education from WVU, Rosetta began her career as an educator as a reading specialist in 1966. She then served several schools in Garrett County as a Special Education teacher and finally completed her 24 years of service in the education system in 1990 as the coordinator and educator for the Gifted and Talented program in the county. Apart from her career as an educator, Rosetta had numerous interests and hobbies. With Bob and her children, she became an integral part in the life of the Oakland community through her involvement as a parent volunteer at the various schools her children attended, her church and with organizations such as the DAR and the Burlington Children's Home. After discovering her ancestry connection for the privilege of joining the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rosetta developed a passionate interest in researching and documenting a written and pictorial history of her family tree. Rosetta was also a gifted seamstress and tailor and upon her retirement, she mastered the art of guilt making and designed, crafted and gifted numerous pieces to her children and grandchildren to be kept as heirlooms. Additionally, Rosetta was a gifted pianist who often shared her passion for music with students. Rosetta is survived by her spouse of more than 64 years, Robert Franklin Rodeheaver; her four children and their spouses, Randle Rodeheaver and spouse, Denise Rinker of Oakland, MD, Dr. Rhonda Ammann and spouse, Dr. Albert M. Ammann of West Palm Beach, FL, Dr. Robin Meek and spouse, Dr. John Meek of Lexington, KY and Roslyn Elaine Rodeheaver of Mountain Lake Park, MD; five grandchildren, Megan Moore of Lexington, KY, Hannah Griffin of Jupiter, FL, and Wesley Meek, Elliott Meek and Jessica Meek of Lexington, KY; and she received the blessing of knowing her first great grandchild, Naomi Olivia Moore, Lexington, KY. Friends will be received by the family on Wednesday, April 1st from 2 to 5 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 2nd at 11 AM in St. Paul's Methodist Church, 318 E. Oak St., Oakland with Pastor Carl Fike and Pastor Barbara Rexroad officiating. Rosetta was deeply devoted to her Lord and passionate about leaving a godly legacy for her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite passages from the Bible was Psalm 100. It was her greatest mission in life to honor and serve her Lord and Savior by serving her family, neighbors and community with unflagging enthusiasm and grace. She leaves a lasting legacy of love and selflessness for us all to emulate. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Deer Park United Methodist Church, c/o 205 Seneca Ave., Oakland, MD 21550 or the Burlington United Methodist Family Services, PO Box 69, 120 Hope Ln., Burlington, WV 26710.
