Ronald "Butch" Lee Wilson, 74, of Eglon, passed away on October 13, 2023, under the care of WV Caring in Elkins. Born on February 11, 1949, in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Roy and Geraldine (Shaffer) Wilson.
After graduating high school, Butch made a lifelong career being a coal miner and one of the many coal mines he worked for was Island Creek Coal Company, from which many of his local coworkers would remember him. He enjoyed hunting and trout fishing, especially when fishing included spending time with his family. Butch was a proud member of the Mt. Grove Volunteer Fire Department, where he served the community for over 58 years and, most recently, earned the position of Captain of the department.
He is survived by his wife, Leona (Wilhelm) Wilson, to whom he was married on October 19, 2019; two children, Crystal Morton of Oakland and Jeffery Wilson of Eglon; a stepson, James Reed of Oakland; five grandchildren, Tiffini Sisler, Charles Sisler, Nathaniel Wilson, Kyle Morton, and Tyler Morton; and two siblings, Connie White and Charlene Arnold.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Paulette Lucy Wilson, and a brother, Donnie Wilson.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM at the Mt. Grove Community Building, 1671 Slaubaugh Road Eglon, WV 26716. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11 AM in the Mt. Grove Community Building with Pastor Debbie Strawser officiating. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Davis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Grove Fire Department, 385 Maple Spring Highway Eglon, WV 26716.
