Ronald Henderson

Ronald Gwynn Henderson, 83, of Washington, D.C., passed away on June 17, 2024, in Oakland, MD, with family by his side. Born on December 23, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Mack and Ethel (Jones) Henderson.

Ron was charismatic with an engaging humor and wit. He was generous, and cherished moments with family and friends. Ron grew up on a farm with his large family. In his youth, he developed an affinity for sports that would last a lifetime. In high school he excelled on the baseball, basketball, and football teams. Ron attended Michigan State University where he played shortstop for the university's baseball team. His passion for sports took him to Minor League Baseball in 1962 and 1963, where he compiled a career batting average of .264 with 14 home runs and 108 RBI in his 241-game career with the Alamance/Burlington Indians and Dubuque Packers (Cleveland Indians). Ron pursued other career interests, and later in life worked as a telephone technician until retirement.

He is survived by five children; Mack Henderson, Marc Henderson, Lisa Henderson, Leta Henderson, and Devlin Henderson (Ario Sanchez); four grandchildren, Kayden, Christian Liam, Chloe, and Anario Sanchez; one brother, Eric Henderson; and a sister-in-law, Ida Henderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by thirteen siblings; Helen Edwards, Mack Henderson, Roy Henderson, Frank Henderson, Joe Henderson, Shirley Boykin, Carl Henderson, Alfred Henderson, Romaine Prunty, Yvonne Davis, Jon Henderson, Maxine Henderson, and Donald Henderson.
