Roger I. Halsey, 85, of New Castle, Virginia, formerly of Palatka, FL and Deep Creek Lake, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday July 25, 2015 at Richfield Care Center in Salem, VA. Born on September 6, 1929 in Deer Park, MD, he was a son of the late Ogilvie and Blanche (Green) Halsey. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a retired aircraft mechanic who worked with Lockheed Martin and Capital and United Airlines. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 1 in Paris France. Roger, AKA "The Love Doctor" was the life of the party; he loved to dance and was a dance instructor with Arthur Murray in the 1960's. He was a summer-time regular on the Lake, especially at the Boardwalk Bar & Grill in Deep Creek, where he had many wonderful friends, shared many wonderful memories and danced the night away. He is survived by a daughter, Laura Halsey Maynard of New Castle, VA; grandson, John-Morgan Maynard of New Castle, VA; son in law, Keith Maynard of New Castle, VA; one brother John Halsey of McHenry, MD; a sister, Sylvia Halsey of Daytona Beach, FL; numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and special family friends, Michael and Peggy Torr of Baltimore, MD and Jesse Etter, New Castle, VA who also was a caretaker for him in the last few months. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a twin brother, who died at birth; three brothers, Edwin Halsey, Richard Halsey and Kenneth Halsey; and his 21 year old Chihuahua, Bambi. A memorial service with military honors will be held in the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland, MD on Saturday, September 5th at 11 AM. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Deep Creek Baptist Cemetery.
