Robert Wesley "Bob" Friend, 84, of Oakland died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Garrett Regional Medical Center. Born on May 8, 1932 in Swanton, he was the son of the late Ermine Wesley and Cora Matilda (Brant) Friend. He was veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a park ranger for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Bob was also an avid woodsman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arlene Faye (Bittinger) Friend; two sons, Michael Friend of Fredericksburg, VA and Gary Friend and wife Danita of Oakland; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Thomas and husband William of Oakland; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Friend and William "Bill" Friend, both of Oakland; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Friend and a grandson, Anthony Lee Friend. A funeral service will be at the C & S FREDLOCK FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland held on Friday, December 2nd at 12PM with Rev. Paul Goldizen officiating. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Taylor-Sines Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glendale Assembly of God, PO Box 3089, Swanton, MD 21561.
