Robert William Carney Sr., 53, of Oakland, died Friday, May 21, 2021, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
He was born in Canton, Ohio, on Sept. 26, 1967, to James Carney and Patricia Rosa-Stewart.
Bob was an Army Veteran of Desert Storm and exemplified life, love, and laughter. We honor Bob by remembering him as an amazing person who played a unique and special role in all our lives. Bob was living proof of how fine a person can be. He worked as a broker for Taylor Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales where he was affectionately known as "Broker Bob" where his humor was infectious and he was known to be a prankster. He was a mentor and leader for the sales team and always had sage advice and sound counsel, but even more so he offered compassion and understanding; always served up with a smile or a smirk. His motto was to "be better today than you were yesterday." He was deeply involved with the Garrett County Board of Realtors and served on countless committees and was a past president of the organization. He was also a member of the Oakland-Mtn. Lake Park Lions Club, Oakland Elks Club and American Legion. There is simply not enough time or space to list all his many contributions to the community, charities and to improving the lives of his colleagues, co-workers, neighbors and friends. Bob was a loving partner to his fiancée, a devoted father and grandfather, and a cherished son. He was also a good friend to many and a great colleague. Bob was always willing to lend a hand and quick to offer help when it was needed. Bob's hobbies were spending time with family, friends and of course his granddaughter, Braylynn. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, traveling and just living life to the fullest. Everyone who knew him will miss a vibrant individual with a rare friendliness, contagious smile, and huge heart. Bob was a genuinely warm and wonderful individual-one we will miss greatly. Our sorrow is lessened only slightly with the comforting thought that we had the privilege to know him.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by fiancée, Wendy Schmidt; two children, Robert William Carney Jr. and Brittany N. (Brandon) Harvey; grandchild, Braylynn Savage; and four step-grandchildren, Kaelee, Madison, Audrey, Mason; and sister, Christy Carney.
He was preceded by his stepmother, Prudence Carney.
