Richard J. "Dick" Williams, Jr., 66, of Oakland died on Friday, November 1, 2013 at his home. Born on December 25, 1946 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Richard Jones Williams, Sr. and Erna Ann (Cole) Williams. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Vietnam War and was a graduate of Parsons College and Frostburg State College, having earned a Master of Education. Dick was the owner, along with his wife, of the Long Branch Saloon and Motel in Mt. Lake Park. He was also a member of the Elk's Lodge #2481, the H.O.G., East Gate Lodge #216 AF&AM and was a thirty-second degree with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Rebecca Ann (Shaffer) Williams; a daughter, Autumn Cole Williams of Oakland; adopted son, Scott Meyers of Oakland; brother, Dr. Frederick Wallace Williams and wife Lois Anne of Accokeek, MD; sister in law, Kathy B. Shaffer of Oakland; nieces and nephews, Jennie Lynn Williams II Mastrofini and husband Leonard of Springfield VA, William Frederick Williams V and wife Christine of Manassas Park, VA, Mary Beth Yantz and husband Jason of Charleston, SC, Richard Bartlett Shaffer and wife Amanda of Oakland and Holly Shaffer of Oakland; great nieces and great nephews, Gianna Mastrofini, Leonardo Mastrofini, Ashley Williams and Ethan Williams; and special great nephews, Maddox and Myles Shaffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Cole Williams Hall and brother in law, Richard Sterling Shaffer. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Sunday, November 3rd from 5 to 8 PM. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held in the funeral home on Monday, November 4th at 12 noon with Pastor Don Turley officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Dick's family requests that donations be made in his memory to Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
