Richard Howard Reckner, 84, of Oakland died on Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home. Born on September 23, 1928 in Swanton, he was the son of the late Robert and Louise (Beckman) Reckner. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War and a former truck driver for D&L Coal. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bittinger and a past member of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department. Richard was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and two furry companions, Pepper the cat and Trixi the dog. He is survived by two sons, Ronald Wayne Reckner of Friendsville and Randall Eugene "Jake" Reckner and wife Brenda of Oakland; and two grandsons, Ronald Wayne Reckner, II and fiancAC.e Hannah Fike and Jeremiah Ray Reckner, all of Friendsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Rose (Wright) Reckner, in 2008; a son, Richard H. Reckner, Jr., in 1985; two brothers, Robert "June" Reckner and Harold Reckner; and two sisters, Olive Groves and Eloise Wensel. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Thursday, September 5th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and on Friday, September 6th from 10 to 11 AM, at which time a funeral service will be held with Carl Lee officiating. Interment will be in George Cemetery, Swanton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 3152, Deer Park, MD 21550.
