Rhea Helbig

Rhea Belle Helbig, 90, of Oakland died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on September 3, 1922 in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the late William Earl and Edith E. George. She was a 1939 graduate of Oakland High School and, in 1943, became a licensed Registered Nurse for Church Home and Hospital in Baltimore where she worked for 30 years. She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Sue George of Jessup and Barbara Helbig of Deer Park; one granddaughter, Katharine George and husband Jon Velapoldi of Columbia; one grandson, Michael Brady George of Columbia; a step-daughter, Ernestine Helbig; three step grandsons, Charles, Andy and Butch Helbig; and a great grandson, Paul Velapoldi. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband J. E. Helbig; a sister, Earlene Graham; a brother, Frank George; a son, Douglas L. George; and two step-sons, Jack Helbig and Gene Helbig. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 26th at 11 AM in Deer Park Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Chip Lee officiating. In lieu of flowers, Rhea directed that memorials should be made to the Human Society of the United States, Dept. MEMIT9, 2100 L St. NW, Washington DC 20037. The Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A. is assisting the family with arrangements.
