Rex Lawton Arnett, 61, of Aurora, WV, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Born on January 4, 1962, in Kingwood, he was the son of Marilyn Joyce (Sanders) Arnett of Aurora and the late Donald Rex Arnett.
Rex attended Aurora High School. At the age of fifteen, he bought a dump truck and started a hauling business/partnership. He also owned and operated his own snow-plowing business and did some landscaping on the side. Rex was a timber cutter, truck driver, and equipment operator for Arnett Logging, and was also a Game of Logging Instructor. Most recently, he served as a TW3 Crew Chief for the State of WV Department of Highways, Fellowsville Substation.
Rex enjoyed rambling around the woods, digging ramps, and finding mushrooms and watercress, things he also shared with his daughter, Savannah. He loved to cook and didn't mind experimenting with different spices and sauces (sometimes too much), which is why Savannah doesn't care for venison burgers to this day. He was a hunter and fisherman who loved to teach others how to "do it right". He worked on chain saws, weed eaters and other small equipment in his spare time. He was also known to create wood carvings in various sizes using a chainsaw. Rex was a funny guy with a contagious laugh and an endless line of stories to share with literally anyone who would listen. There are few people in the community who didn't know him. Anyone who was his friend would say he'd do pretty much anything for them. He had a knack for fixing things "in his own way", which almost always made no sense to anyone else. Rex loved his job with the WV DOH; he spoke highly of the people he worked with; and he came home every day with a smile on his face, no matter how his day went. He loved his family and friends, his dog Petey, and he was especially proud of his daughter.
In addition to his mother, Rex is survived by his daughter, Savannah Arnett, of Aurora, WV; and a sister, Darlene Gill and husband Danny also of Aurora, WV.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 10, 2023, at 11 am the Mt. Grove Memorial Building near Mt Grove Church. Friends are welcome to stay after the service for a reception.
The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., Oakland is honored to be caring for the Arnett family at this time.
