Ralph Antonia Gatto, 90, of Eglon (PrestonCounty) WV died March 2 along with his wife, Winnifred Gatto in a tragic fire at their home.
He was born in Coketon, WV on November 30, 1923, the son of the late Bruno (Pop) and Minnie Gatto. He married Winnifred White on September 13, 1983 in the First Presbyterian Church, Winchester, VA.
He is survived by 1 son, Ralph A. Gatto, Jr. San Diego, CA, 2 daughters Cheryl(John) Heinz, Glenolden, PA, Coleen (Felix) Cruz Wilmington, DE, one step daughter Delores Jeanne (Helmick) DeGrave (Dale) of Kearneysville, WV., two step sons, Gary Helmick (Debbie) of Riverview, Florida, and Glenn Helmick (Bonnie) Gobles, Michigan; ten step grandchildren - Tom, Nicole, Daniel, Lisa Breanne, Samantha, Lindsey, Kristen, Danielle and Gabriel; and five step great grandchildren - Rachel, Kyle, Elizabeth, Emily and Eva.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be missed deeply by his family and his many friends in the community.
He was predeceased by one sister, Catherine Gatto, three brothers Joseph Gatto, George Gatto, and Henry Gatto.
He served with distinction in the U.S. Army. He retired from Kingsford Charcoal in Parsons, WV.
He was a member of the Maple Springs Church of the Brethren, Eglon, WV. Friends will be received at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, on April 5, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the funeral hour, Pastor Gary Meeks will be officiating.
Following the service interment will be at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, WV.
