Phyllis Simms

Phyllis Imajean (Murphy) Simms, 82, of Oakland passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Born April 22, 1929 in Morgantown, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Rowan) Murphy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sheridan William "Barney" Simms and one brother, Lester "Joe" Murphy.

She was a member of the Deer Park VFW Post 10077 and the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 Ladies Auxiliaries. She was employed as a custodian at Southern High School for many years and retired from Bausch & Lomb in 1987. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, person and friend who had a tremendous amount of love for her family and all of those whose lives she touched, and there were many.

She will be forever loved and sadly missed by one surviving sister, Catherine Harvey; three children, daughter Helen Schrock and husband Ron of Oakland, son William Simms and companion Margaret Miller of Oakland, and son James Simms and wife Mary of Mt. Lake Park; six grandchildren, Chris Stemple and husband James, Ron Schrock and wife Peggy, James Schrock and wife Alicia, Angel Simms-Fuller and husband Donny, Tommy Simms, and Tammy Masters and husband Jim; twelve great grandchildren, Blaine and Beth Stemple, Ronnie and Jacob Schrock, Katelynn, Mason, and Landon Schrock, Andrew and Joseph Fuller, Gabrielle and Nathaniel Simms and Brandon Masters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, 21 N 2nd St., Oakland,MD from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 PM on Thursday, March 29th. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12 PM on Friday, March 30th with Pastor Sharon Bernard officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 10077 or the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71.
