Phyllis Knepp

Phyllis Marie Knepp, 78 of Red House, MD died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at her residence.

Born August 22, 1931 in North Glade, she was the daughter of the late Heyward S. and Effie Friend Custer. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Benjamin F. Knepp, Jr. and Elbert O. Riley.

Mrs. Knepp worked for A.S.C. Office for 10 years and was the Secretary for St. John's Lutheran Church for 20 years. She also served as Treasurer for St. John's Lutheran Church for over 30 years, worked for the Election Board for over 30 years, and was a 4-H Leader for over 10 years.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Red House, St. John's Sewing Circle, serving as the Secretary and the Sunnyside Homemakers.

She is survived by her children William H. Knepp and spouse Marcia Knepp, Janet K. Cosner and spouse Steve Cosner, Stephen E. Knepp and spouse Amy Knepp, all of Red House, MD; Grandchildren, Cassie Knepp, Katie Knepp, Kevin Knepp, Emily Cosner, Sarah Cosner, Jennifer Cosner, Stephen Knepp, Jr. and wife Megan Knepp, Benjamin Knepp, III.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Hubert Custer and spouse Mae of Deer Park, MD, Evelyn Steyer (wife of the late Sam Steyer) of Oakland, Melvin Custer and spouse Eileen of Swanton, MD, Dale Custer and spouse Marie of Oakland, Mary Bishop and spouse Rev. Franklin Bishop of Mt. Airy, MD, Shirley Bernard and spouse Tom of Oakland, Leo Custer and spouse Janet of Swanton, Roger Custer ( husband of the late Mary Custer) of Keyser, WV, Clarence Custer and spouse JoAnn of Oakland, MD.

The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, MD on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 1, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Red House, MD with Pastor C. Scott Robinson and Pastor Donnie Savage officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of memorial donations, in her name, to Hospice of Garrett County, P. O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550 or to St. John's Lutheran Church of Red House, 3301 Garrett Highway, Oakland, MD 21550.
