Phillip Wilt

March 14, 1930 — December 20, 2014

Phillip Martin "Bud" Wilt, Sr., 84, of Oakland went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on March 14, 1930 in Crellin, he was the son of the late Arthur Martin Wilt and Naomi Ruth (Jamison) Wilt Cosner. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and began working in the coal mines at a young age. In 1971, he became a Coal Mine Inspector for the Miners Safety and Health Administration from which he retired in 2009. Bud was a proud and active member of the Underwood United Brethren Church and received his 32nd degree as a member of the Oakland AF&AM Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed walking, cutting firewood and preparing for and celebrating Christmas, but most of all, he enjoyed his family. He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years, Lena Gennett (Foster) Wilt; children, Art Wilt and wife Bonnie of Kingwood, WV, Steve Wilt and wife Gale of Masontown, WV, Terry Shaffer and husband Brad of Silver Lake, WV, and Pastor Marty Wilt and wife Debbie of Oakland; nine grandchildren, Denny Wilt, Jenny Beveridge, Rich Wilt, Andy Wilt, Erika Myers, Stevi Ellifritz, Mike Wilt, Jamie Wilt and Cody Wilt; eleven great grandchildren, Garrett, Kayla, Cole, Bailey, Ethan, Greer, Jameson, Faith, Landri, Creed and Caleb; a brother, Earl D. Wilt of Gorman; two sisters, Esther Rhodes of Gormania, WV and Joy Foster of Crellin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Neal "Butch" Wilt; a sister, Hazel Uphole; brothers, Anthony "Dick" Wilt and Jerry Wilt; and an infant brother, Alfred Neal Wilt. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Monday, December 22nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and at the Underwood United Brethren Church on Tuesday, December 23rd from 9 to 10 AM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastors Frank Harvey and Donald Matthews officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Underwood United Brethren Church, c/o 181 Glotfelty Dr., Oakland, MD 21550.
