Philip R. Ferguson, Sr., 83, of Oakland died on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on May 6, 1929 in Oakland, he was the son of the late George W. and Alice Ruth (Schmidt) Ferguson. He worked as a coal miner for over forty years and retired from Island Creek Coal Company. He was also a life-long dairy farmer and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Square Dance Club, Deer Park VFW Post 10077, American Legion Proctor Kildow Post 71 and was a "handy-man" for the Mt. Citizens Action Group. Many knew him as the "candy man" for always having a special treat to give. He is survived by his wife, Dolores (Burnsworth) Ferguson of Oakland; sons, Philip R. Ferguson, Jr. and wife Debbie, Gary Allen Ferguson and wife Sabrina, Steven George Ferguson and wife Judith and a daughter, Gail Lynn Hebb, all of Oakland; grandchildren, Tammy Moore, Timothy Ferguson, Jeremy Ferguson, Billy Hebb, and Erica Calhoun; eight great grandchildren; and a brother, George Junior Ferguson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Marie (Tasker) Ferguson; a grandson, Cody Ferguson; and a brother, Robert Ferguson. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Wednesday, September 5th from 9 to 11 AM at which time a funeral service will be held with Rev. Michael Grantz officiating. Private family interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery with military honors.
