Paul Sharpless

July 6, 1923 — March 9, 2017

Paul Ellis Sharpless, 93, of Swanton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 9, 2017, while at his home. Born on July 6, 1923, on the family farm in Mt. Zion, Paul was the son of the late Birkley and Lillie (Paugh) Sharpless. On January 10, 1948, he married Bertie (Evans) Sharpless. Paul attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church from the time he was a small child. He proudly served in the United States Army for three years during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and Woodmen of the World. Paul worked as a coal miner and as a farmer. He loved his family well. He often said he felt very blessed to have many family members, neighbors and friends whom he could call upon for help. Paul is survived by his bride of 69 years, Bertie (Evans) Sharpless; a daughter, Nancy Sharpless Livengood; two granddaughters, Lisa Kerr and husband Jay and Laura Johnson and husband Rob; five great grandchildren, Josh Kerr and wife Tabi, Aaron Kerr, Mindi Kerr, Jaylen Johnson and Julian Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Lyle, Fred, Austin and Elroy Sharpless (the latter two passing as small children), and a sister, Hazel Sharpless McCrobie. Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 710 Church Street, Kitzmiller on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Swanton, on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 11 AM with Pastor Gary Rankin officiating. Interment will be in the Sharpless Family Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the combined honor guard of the American Legion Post #71 and the Deer Park VFW Post #10077. Flowers are welcome but the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Garrett County, who has been so very kind. The family would also like to thank Home Health of Garrett County for their kind, compassionate service.
