Nell Lavern Metcalf Hauser, 84, of Eglon, WV, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Dennett Road Manor nursing home. God took her home after a long battle with dementia. Born on April 15, 1939, in Marion, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Lucy (Metcalf) Hauser.
Nell worked at Interwoven Mills in Martinsburg, WV, in the early '60s, then she and her husband, Keith, owned and ran the Martinsburg Motel from 1970 to 1977. They bought a dairy farm in Eglon in 1977, and, while farming, she worked at Eglon Southern States as the bookkeeper and clerk. She was always willing to help where needed. She could often be found in the back helping grind buckwheat flour. Nell retired from Coastal Lumber Company, where she was the bookkeeper.
Nell enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and crafting. She passed these hobbies on to Linda, Heather, and Christina. Nell loved hanging out with Keith, Michael, and Brian while they worked on their latest project. She always referred to Rodney and Shelby as her 'favorite son-in-law" and "daughter-in-law" with a loving smile and wink. Nell loved Christmas, always taking the opportunity to make the perfect homemade gift for each family member and spend time with her family.
Nell is survived by her daughter, Linda M. Payne and husband Rodney of Hedgesville, WV; sons, Brian K. Hauser and wife Shelby, and Michael D. Hauser, both of Eglon; granddaughters, Heather Payne and Christina Payne, both of Hedgesville; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Keith Dale Hauser.
Mrs. Hauser's request for cremation will be honored. There are no services scheduled at this time.
The C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A. is honored to be serving the Hauser family at this time.
