Nancy Helbig

Nancy Lucille Helbig, 90, of Oakland died on Thursday, August 28, 2013 at Garrett County Memorial Hospital. Born on June 18, 1923 in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Emroy D. and Mary (May) Bolden. A graduate of Oakland High School, she attended the University of Maryland and Bard Avon Business School. She was co-owner of Gonder Insurance Agency from 1968 until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Loar Auxiliary, Oakland Civic Club and was past president of the Garrett County Humane Society. She enjoyed golf, bowling and playing bridge into her 70's. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Helbig of Oakland and Terry Helbig and wife Kathy of Oakland; a brother, DeCorsey Bolden; a grandson, Corey Helbig; a great grandson, Zach Finch; three nephews; and two nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Helbig and her sister, Mary Virginia Murray. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11 AM in St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oakland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Garrett County Humane Society, PO Box 115, Oakland, MD 21550 or the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 43, Oakland, MD 21550.
