Nancy Baker

Nancy Jean Baker, 62, of Confluence, PA, died on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014 at Somerset Hospital. Born on June 24, 1952, in Oakland, she was the daughter of Stanley and Arva (Wotring) Baker of Oakland. She attended Loch Lynn Elementary School and completed her high school education at Southern Garrett Jr.-Sr. High School. Nancy worked in the food service industry. She grew up on a dairy farm. Family was important to her. She enjoyed Sunday drives and going out to Sunday dinners and always looked forward to family vacations in the summer when the family traveled to all the states east of the Mississippi. There were many get-togethers with cousins at grandparents' homes during holidays and other special occasions. She lived most of her life in Oakland, Cumberland and Confluence. She also lived in Seaside, Oregon. Nancy enjoyed shopping, embroidery, quilting, stamp collecting, jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, cooking and baking. She had a green thumb. Nancy had a knack for gift givinga�"she knew just what a person needed and she always knew the dates of family and extended family's birthdays. She was savy about saving money. She had a unique sense of humor and was known to play friendly pranks on her favorite people. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Connie Jacoby and husband Fred of Oakland and Michelle Harris and husband Steve of Chester, VA; three nephews, Jaime Jacoby and Codi of Missoula, MT, Eric Jacoby and Maria of Oakland, and Alex Harris and Ashley of Richmond, VA; one great nephew, Alex Harris, Jr.; and one great niece, Collins Jacoby-Bravo; an aunt and a number of cousins. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland on Tuesday, August 26th from 2 to 3 PM after which time a funeral service will be held with Pastor J. Rogers Fike officiating. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery, Aurora, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Appalachian Crossroads, Finance Director, 39 S. Third St., Oakland, MD 21550.
